Via Appia, the “Queen Viarum” is a UNESCO heritage site
The Appian Way enters the World Heritage List.
The inscription on the UNESCO list was decided in the 46th session of the World Heritage Committee, meeting in New Delhi.
The ‘Via APPIA. Regina Viarum’ thus becomes the 60th Italian site recognized by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization. This is the first candidacy promoted directly by the Ministry of Culture, which coordinated all phases of the process and prepared all the necessary documentation for the request for inclusion in the World Heritage List.
Satisfaction was expressed by Mayor Gualtieri, by the representatives of the Council and the Capitoline Assembly.
The celebratory event for the inscription of the Via Appia Regina Viarum site in the UNESCO World Heritage List will take place on Wednesday 31 July, at 7pm, in the presence of all the public and private institutions involved in the candidacy process.
