Gauguin Exhibition in Rome
The exhibition “Gauguin. The Diary of Noa Noa and Other Adventures,” after paying homage to Salvador Dalí, will lead you into the universe of Paul Gauguin through an exhibition that reconstructs the travels of the famous French artist, recounted in the pages of his 1893 diary.
At the Museo Storico della Infanteria, just steps from the Basilica of Santa Croce in Gerusalemme, exhibitions dedicated to the great artists who have left their mark on the history of art continue.
The exhibition focuses on Gauguin’s graphic work, featuring around one hundred works, including drawings, woodcuts, and lithographs. The heart of the exhibition will be Gauguin’s personal notebook, a precious tool that documents not only his graphic talent but also the personal and professional connections that shaped his life, such as that with Vincent van Gogh, of whom twelve color lithographs will be on display. The relationship with the artists of the time is further investigated through the presentation of a precious selection of prints by exponents of the Nabis group such as Maurice Denis, Paul Sérusier and Émile Bernard.
At the heart of the diary and the exhibition is a passion for adventure and the Polynesian islands, an inexhaustible source of inspiration and fascination for the artist, which drove him to reflect deeply on his own existence. Through myths, beliefs, natural beauty, and intimate accounts, Gauguin traces, through his writings and artwork, an exotic world that still fascinates us today and transports us far away.
A visit to the exhibition “Gauguin: The Diary of Noa Noa and Other Adventures” offers a unique opportunity to deepen your understanding of a key figure in modern art, through a journey rich in visual and documentary evidence.
