The Treasures of the Pharaohs, an exhibition at the Scuderie del Quirinale
From October 24, 2025, to May 3, 2026, the Scuderie del Quirinale will host the prestigious exhibition exploring the ancient and fascinating Egyptian civilization through a selection of masterpieces from Egypt’s most important museums.
Curated by Dr. Tarek El Awady, Treasures of the Pharaohs is an extraordinary and unique event to admire exceptional works and artifacts, including some exhibited for the first time in Italy. This is the second time Egypt has authorized such a massive exhibition, following the one at Palazzo Grassi in Venice in the early 2000s.
The exhibition unfolds in six thematic sections, recounting a timeless civilization—the divine role of the pharaohs, social organization, spirituality, afterlife rituals, and recent archaeological discoveries—with 130 masterpieces on loan from Egypt’s most illustrious museums, including the Egyptian Museum in Cairo and the Luxor Museum, along with a precious artifact from the Egyptian Museum in Turin.
The result of a prestigious collaboration between Italy and Egypt that celebrates the value of cultural diplomacy, the exhibition traces the fundamental stages of Egyptian civilization, from its origins to the golden age of the great pharaohs of the New Kingdom and the Third Intermediate Period. Among the works on display are the monumental sculpture of the Triad of Menkaure (Old Kingdom), the golden sarcophagus of Queen Ahhotep (New Kingdom), the Necklace of the Golden Flies of Queen Ahhotep, the golden funerary mask of Amenemope, the golden sarcophagus of Thuya, grandmother of Pharaoh Akhenaten, the golden funerary covering of Pharaoh Psusennes I (Third Intermediate Period), the statues of Sennefer, Ramses VI and Thutmose III, along with royal jewels, everyday objects and sarcophagi adorned with sacred symbols.
The exhibition also offers a fascinating insight into the Golden City, a settlement dating back to the reigns of Amenhotep III and Akhenaten, unearthed thanks to an exceptional archaeological excavation. Its finds offer a unique glimpse into Egyptian society, the daily life, and the customs of the artisans serving the court, whose mastery helped shape history.
The exhibition, accompanied by a catalog edited by Dr. Zahi Hawass, is further enriched by a calendar of events, including lectures, guided tours, and educational workshops for adults and children, offering a deeper understanding of Egyptian culture through an accessible and exciting experience.
